About Us

Introduction:

Shri Kamala Sai Baba Temple is situated at Pillaichavady, Pondicherry. Its just opposite to well known educational hub of Puducherry namely; PONDICHERRY UNIVERSITY. Since the prime location is surrounded by mainly educational institutes namely Pondicherry University, Pondicherry Engineering College, Law College, several National and International schools it naturally became a seat for knowledge in Pondicherry therefore, the name “Sri Kamala Sai” was given to this temple.

Kamalam (lotus) has been a spiritual symbol in Hindu, Buddhist and Egyptian religions, and considered a sacred flower. Kamalam represents divine birth, spiritual development and creation itself. The Lotus represents the spiritual heart but not our physical heart. Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, and Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, are depicted sitting in a lotus. The lotus also represents purity and non-attachment, and is a symbol of Bhakti or love for God.

Shri Shirdi SaiBaba Seva Samithi

A group of seven Sai devotees started Sri Shirdi SaiBaba Seva Samithi under the presidentship of Shri A. Senthur Pandian in the year 1993. The main objectives of the Samithi are:

To carry on the message of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba among the masses in India and abroad.
To propagate the proceedings of the Sri Shirdi Sai Baba among the youth by literature, seminars, conferences etc.
To build a temple for Lord Shirdi Sai Baba for worshiping, meditation, lectures, and other kinds worshiping.
To undertake social project works towards the upliftment of down trodden and illiterates such as feeding poor people, attending the sick, feeding them, and providing the required cloths, medicines etc.

Shirdi SaiBaba Seva Charitable Trust

Then Shirdi SaiBaba Seva Charitable Trust was created in the year 1998. Shri A. Sendur Pandian is a settlor of the trust and the following four persons are the founder trustees.

Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Seva Samithi and Shirdi SaiBaba Seva Charitable Trust jointly constructed Shri Kamala Sai Baba Temple and Maha Khumbabhiseka was held on 21 June 2002.

Now the Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Seva Samithi has completed 26+ years of its service. Our Samithi has made Sai Baba very popular, resulting in up coming of 6 more temples in and around Pondicherry. Sri Shirdi SaiBaba Seva Samithi has celebrated silver jubilee celebrations on 21st June 2018 in a fitting manner.

The donation to the trust has obtained exemption from the income tax under section 80G.

Shri Kamala Sai Baba Temple is situated in Pillaichavady, Pondicherry started in the year 1995 by Sai Baba Seva Samithi under the Society Act with the registration number 125/1993. Initially the temple started by a small group of devotees in the area of 20x15 sq. ft. in a small thatched shed. With the support of Prof. Raja Ram, the then Dean of JIPMER made an attempt to build a Baba temple inside Vinayakar temple in JIPMER Campus. Since it did not materialize a room was rented in Karuvadi Kuppam where Thursday evening pooja used to be conducted.

For the construction of the temple, Shri V. Janarthanan, Founder of TAT transports donated about 10,800 square feet land to build Kamala Sai Baba Temple at Pillaichavady just opposite to very well known Pondicherry University. Along with devotee’s contributions, Shri KV Ramani of Sri Sai Trust, Chennai had contributed an amount of 10 lakhs for the construction of the temple. Subsequently the Seva Samithi purchased several plots adjacent to the temple and now temple has a total area of 32,400 square feet of land. During the year 1993, there were 50 life members and as on today there are 359 life members. Since then temple progressed slowly till 2010 and then the growth went on exponentially.

The present temple was built and consecrated on June 21, 2002. Those days there was no awareness about Sri Shirdi Sai Baba among the people of this region. This is the first temple of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba in Pondicherry.
